On a network in my work we have a netgear router set up as a DHCP server although recently it has not been assigning IP addresses to all computers, each day a different PC is left without an IP address.

It had worked perfectly for over a year and no settings have been changed, does anybody have any ideas or does this just sound like a faulty router?

Any chance you have more computers than the size of the DHCP pool? If it assigns .50 to .100 and you have over 51 computers, some one will be left out.

Afraid not, there are only 15-20 computers on the network.

Sounds like a IP conflict to me. When a computer is turned on, the router is trying to issue a ip address that is already assigned to another computer. I would first try the basic unplug power and let it sit for a min then plug it back in. If that does not fix the issue, see if there is a firmware upgrade for the router. If that is not the issue, go buy a new router. Netgear routers are only about 30$ at office depot.

There may be only 15 - 20 pcs but how big is the DHCP scope?

What does the event log on the workstation say?

What is the lease time you have configured on the scope? it could be that if you have a lot of transient machines logging onto the network they are taking the leases and they aren't being released in time to allow another machine to received an address.
