Hi there,
I appreciate any help regarding the following scenario. There are 2 DCs in a single-master domain with W2K AD. The 1st DC in the forest has a DHCP and DNS server services. DNS is integrated with AD for mydomain.local.
Due to bad sectors on its hard drive, the 1st DC will be taken down (I,ve tried to fix those sectors with CheckDisk and Maxtor's PowerDiag utilities, however, no luck).
In order to take this DC down for short period of time(1,5 hr), I've transfered PDC emulator role to the 2nd DC, and also configured DHCP and DNS on it with an identical settings (scope, reservations, etc.)
Users can log on and can access the web. I was not able to do neither backup nor image of faulty DC - it just can't read data in those sectors. I realize that now I'll have to transfer the remaining roles to another DC, then using dcpromo, remove AD from this box, install fresh OS, and promote it back to DC. Probably I will need to transfer all 5 roles (incl. GC) abck to 1st DC (preference).
What do you think I'm missing here, or doing in wrong way. Please let me know ASAP. Thanx.
