Hi Everyone,

I'm still a novice PROCOMM user. Not too familiar with the syntax yet. I did a couple of very simple scripts so far that did not involve communication with other instruments.

Anyway, I'm trying to read the PASS/FAIL outputs of my Kikusui TOS5050. It could provide a 30VDC continuous output. So I'm just wondering what syntax to use in order to take this signal through either the serial or parallel port on my PC?

Sorry if this seems a bit too fundatmental, but my background wasn't in programming. So I've been just reading the eg. in the help menu as I go along.

Thank-you kindly in advance for any replies.

Ed

Procomm doesn't support parallel port communications, so that answers one part of your question. I'm not familiar with the equipment you have, but more than likely you would need either an ordinary serial cable to connect it to your PC or possibly a null modem cable (hopefully the manual for that equipment gives some guidance here). This assumes the pass/fail output you mention are serial in nature and not something proprietary. If that is correct, then you should be able to set Procomm to a direct connection on the appropriate com port and be able to communicate with the device.

Hi, thanks again for your reply.

I'm not 100% sure if my instrument supports any serial communication. There seems to be a 14pin 'champ' connector in the back (hope my attachment comes out OK on this reply). And it indicates that the pass/fail signals are between pins 4 to 6. But I'm not sure if its serial in nature.

If these are just analog signals, is there any Aspect commands to handle them as inputs?

Very much appreciate any further advice. Even if you think what I'm trying to do is not possible.

Thks!

That doesn't look like a standard serial port (either in signals present or form factor). You might check with the manufacturer to see if they have an adapter that would let you plug into a standard serial port as that would be the only way Procomm would be able to communicate with it.
