Windows 2003 server running DC, DNS, WINS can't browse itself. For example, if you type net view, it shows all shared workstations except the server (see below). If you open My Network Places>Entire Network>Microsoft Windows Network>gdomain (in all computers excluding the DC), you don't see the server listed.

What I checked

1. You can map the server shared drive.
2. You net view \\server that will list all server shared folders.
3. All computers including DC point the DNS to the DC/DNS server.
4. nslookup doesn't shows any errors.
5. All computers including the DC point the DC/WINS server.
6. OK to ping any computers using FQDN and hostname.
7. No errors in the Event Viewer.
8. nbtstat -n and browstat look good too (see below)

Why the DC can't browse itself?

I would guess that the gateway it is assigned to one network card which it is set with a IP range that makes it invisible on the network segment where you intend to browse.....just a guess.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. However, the DC can't browse itself. It should be able to see itself. Also other computers can map the shared folder in the DC, but not browse.
