DC cannot replicate

Hi,

We have a windows 2000 AD install over 2 sites

Site 1 2 DC's ( including the fsmo holder)
site 2 2 DC's

We had a problem with one of our DC's on site 2, a HDD died and we couldnt rebuild the raid so we got a new machine and restored the backup on this machine, but we found the system state had not been backed up...

So we removed the DC account from AD and ran a metadata cleanup on AD that removed the 'old' server account, ( the new server has the same name and IP address, not sure if this is a problem )

We then ran dcpromo on the new server and that went fine, all looked OK, but now it appears that this dc is not replicating with the other dc's we have, in Sites and services, there are no auto generated connector entries, when we run a check replication topology it gives the error ' The following error occured during the attempt to contact the domain controller: The active directory property cannot be found in the cache'

I'm not sure if DNS is working aswell ( this server is both DNS and DHCP server ) DHCP seems to be working as it appears to be giving clients dchp addresses.

Is there anything I can check to try to get to the bottom of the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Mick.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, Yes I checked the logs, when dcpromo was run, I wasnt on the site, I was talking the technician through doing this, unfortunately he 'forgot' to mention there were erros during this....! it appeared to be dns related. So we decided to get a new machine ( old one was a good few years old )

I visited the site this time, and ran dcpromo on the new server, configured, dhcp, dns, wins etc... and all is running fine now, I just need to demote the old server and we should be back to normal.

Mick.
