Please help,
In progress of switching to a new server for backup. Old server backs up Exchange server without any problems. However with new server every time I try to back up anything brick level I get the following error.

E8602 Failed to read from database. (DBNAME=Individual Mailboxes\Administrator\Calendar, EC=Backup Agent Error -- (68) "Error status in named pipe.".)

I installed SP4 and QO22840 on the exchange server. And the backup server is Running SP4.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tried using TCP/IP insetad of Named Pipes in the Exchange Backup Agent configuration?

I'll give it a try, where exactly is that set???

You´ll find it as a stand-alone program, probably under
"Arcserve Backup Agent", the program is called "Microsoft Exchange Backup Agent Configuration".
It´s generally one screen with some info in it only. There you will have the option of choosing between named pipes and tcp/ip.

Also, whenever I make changes in the backup agent config, I start and stop the RPC Server (Services\Backup Agent RPC Server). Nut sure if it mathers, but better be on the safe side.

Hope this solves your problem, if not, it´s outside my rather limited knowledge of this wounderful application CA has sold us.

The agent was already set to TCP/IP, any other ideas?
I don't beleve anything is wrong with the exchange server, i think something just needs to bet set/installed/configured on the backup server, I just don't know want.
Any help will be greatly appericated.
Thank you

2d,

When doing a brick level backup, you need to select Named Pipes.
If this does not resolve the problem..
Stop the antivirus running on the ARcserve server and do the backup..

Thanx

Don´t have any solution.... but regarding speshalyst´s last comment:
I run TCP/IP AND brick level. Usually works fine, as long as I remember to stop the Norton AV Autoprotect before the job starts (have set this up as a post-job script).

I do however get some 408-errors ("Application run out of memory") that I haven´t been able to figure out of. This affects various mail-boxes without any consistency in which, but I usually get this error on 5% of the mailboxes on each job.
Ideas?

Ottm,

If you get 418 application run outa mem, on a few mailboxes.
you need to do some grooming of those mailboxes.
check to see if you have any large attachments...
If any move them out.

This should fix it.

cheers

Speshalyst,
Thanks for the tip about stopping the Antivirus software, that did it,
Thank you everyone for your help.

Speshalyst;
Would like to do something about them, but there is really no consistency in which boxes that fails.
I assumed that it had something to do with large attachments/Nº messages yes, but it will wary from day to day, so I can´t predict which boxes to skip.
Not critical really, they´re talking about changing the system here now (automatic and manual mails are used for client interaction, n1000 a day) so I´ll just wait patiently to either my company or CA have fixed this problem one way or another.

Tnx anyway.

M.
