Hi,

I currently own a copy of delphi 5 professional and have just discovered that the DBGrib component is not very good when it comes to viewing lookup data in another file.

I have search the web looking for a free component that will fill the bill without success.

My Question:
Should I buy a VCL library like infopower or should I just upgrade to delphi 7 (will delphi 7 fix my combobox grid problem).
or perhaps someone reading this could suggest a usable free combobox dbgrid component.

Thanks in advance.

The DBGrid is not good in viewing look-up data? Please explain, there is a FAQ entitled How to use a look up field in a DBGrid faq102-1213 in this forum.

I like the infopower grids a lot, but you are tied into infopower once you use it. If you expect to move to a new version of Delphi, you will need to purchase new infopower each time if you plan to use their grids.

By the way, I think that borland (and MS does the same thing) leaves out desired functionality and properties from it's components to let third party software groups provide them.

My opinion is that Delphi is a very strong programming language, if you dig enough in it you can make your own components. Some of us are smarter and sell the components they make. If Borland had to make all the components we like, the books about delphi would be very boring, only explaining the funcionality of components. What about descent programming techniques and real world projects?

Although I like Marco Cantu's Mastering Delphi, it is definitely not a book for somebody who is starting with programming. I would rather call it a vcl reference book. Steven van Els
