Hi, The best thing I did was to get away from NTX files. I have used both Comix and Six CDX indexes with FPT files rather than DBT. They are much more faster, smaller, and rarely get corrupted. Also there are several other best practices that should be adhered to. ie: don't imbed functions into the index etc..
