I am responsible for compiling data from .dbf format into Access. The .dbf files are named on a daily basis and are titled by date (ie 010105) jan 1,2005. I am trying to find a time effective way of joining these files into an Access table. I get these files on a quarterly basis and therefore have up to 60 .dbf files to convert/compile. I have tried several things within Access to accomplish this but none a quick. My knowledge of Access is at a user level only and I have no experience in programming (unless you include 1980's Basic or Mod-2 - not much help there). Is there a way of combining large number of existing Access tables (after they have been imported from .dbf files) into an append query or perhaps someone knows of a VB solution. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

Jim

One simple solution would be to create a primary table to merge all data into, write an append query for each of the tables imported into the database, then place all the queries in a macro. Access macros are a powerful tool once you learn how to use them and they aren't very difficult to learn. You can automate most of the steps you currently do, including your imports. It's like programming without having to learn a programming language (like VB). I've built several substantial Access applications using only queries, forms, reports, and macros. I've even created ETL processes for data warehousing in Access, which included merging data from multiple sources and formats. You might also try the MSDN website for helpful information about using Access and building macros.
