When I run dbcheck command, the following error is shown:

C:\Program Files\ComputerAssociates\ARCserve>dbcheck -a -L arcserve;admin;secret
astape

DBCHECK Utility - Velocis 2.1.399 [09-Feb-2000]
Copyright (c) 1992-2000 Centura Software Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

Failed to open database astape: error -20.

Please help! Thanks!

Hi

yumanho:

I am getting the same error when typing in:

dbcheck -a -L arcserve;admin;secret astape

Failed to open database astape: error -20

The solution from mohamdr does not resolve the problem.

Did you figure it out?

Thanks.

casdb is for BrightStor EB.

Not matter what I tried I was not able to reproduce an error 20. I found some new errors but could not come up with an error 20.

Do you get the same error when doing a dbcheck on other databases?
Does dchain or keybuild work?

First of all:

dbcheck -a -L casdb;admin;secret astape

does not work. I have to use arcserve in place of casdb.

All databases have the same error. I haven't tried dchain, etc. I will see what happens with that.

Also, my databases were originally Arcserve 6.61. I updated to Arcserve 2000 and supposedly they wre converted from Raima to VLDB.

Maybe that's the problem?

Thanks.

I know what error -20 refers to. In the Activity log it lists :

EC=** incompatible dictionary file {-20]

But I haven't been able to get any further.

Have you heard of that?

Yes casdb is for BrightStor EB and arcserve is for all the ARCserve versions, (actually I am not sure about version 9).

You might be right about the problem being related to the conversion. Try running keybuild first.

Incompatible dictionary file so that is why I could not reproduce it.

The dictionary files have the dbd extention.

Install ARCserve to another system and then try copying over the dictionary files from that new install. Perhaps the database update retained the old dictionary files.

DavidMichael:

I am getting somewhere and am doing similar as you suggested. I will get back with you later to tell you the results.

Thanks.

Well, nothing worked. I had a copy of the new files that ARCserve 2000 created when I installed it in another subdirectory. I had tried to copy my old files into the Database directory. I did copy over the new dictionary files, but I could never get the old database files to read without errors. I tried dbcheck, dbfix, etc., but nothing would fix all the problems. So I just forgot about the old files and loaded the tapes in to get the date and serial numbers. If I need a tape for restore, then I can merge in the entire tape. Thanks for your help.
