I apologize if my answer lies within the knowledgebase, I've searched and not found anything helpful - close, but not quite.

Until recently I was able to run dBaseIV on my WinNT4 machine and when I try to fire up dbase.exe today, I get :
"Cannot create/write temporary file c:-<some non-text chars>
*** dbaseIV initialization error"

Any guidance?
I just need to do one final conversion so of course it breaks now. ..... [mad]

I can't locate the original dbaseIV disks to try reinstalling. Any help will be appreciated.

Forget it. Found another old machine dBase on it and did my conversion there.

Are you using a different logon account? To write to the root level of the C: drive you probably need administrator privileges with NT/2000/XP?

I have used dBase 5.0 and it does write temoporary files, possible having to do with multiuser or shared environments, but it usually writes it in the current directory or the calling batch file's directory. If it is a rights issue, start it from a different directory?

Of course, you might have a corrupted temporary or work file. Do you have backups to restore from?

dbmark,
Not a different login or anything that I can think of. Same machine I been sitting at for a long time, same network account. Tried it from a different directory (different disk even).

Thanks for your ideas. I ended up finding another machine that happened to have dBaseIV on it for another (forgotten) purpose. I was able to do my conversion there. Problem solved. For the moment.

Thanks again.
