In Dbase IV, how do I create a *.fmo file from a *.fmt file? I thought I used "compile filename.fmt", but that only yields a *dbo file and I need the *.fmo file to display the fields on the screen. Can't believe I forgot how to do this. Robert 888-433-7000

1. close your previous format screen "set format to"
2. delete your old fmo file "dele file xyz.fmo"
3. to compile your xyz.fmt file into an fmo, "set format to xyz"
4. test it against your dbf, "read"
your problem is caused by the old fmo file, while it is still in existence, you cannot compile the fmt file over it. by deleting the fmo file, dbase allows the fmt file to be recreated
that should do it
