I am using a program, which was orginally designed in Clipper with dBaseIII+ back end. now we are using the same database for a different program, which is designed in MS Visual Basic.
It was working fine for last one year. Now when add a record using the VB program it reflects in the clipper program. but when i change something through the clipper program the index file (.MDX) gets currupted and the data are not reflected in the VB program.
I replaced a .MDX file with an old backup. then it works with the old data.
could any one help me?
Thanx

Without seeing any of the code, I'd say that th ebest place to look for the problem in in your VB code. It sounds like VB isn't opening the index files when the database is modified (additions, deletions, modifications). In order for the index file(s) to work, they must be opened with the database whenever ANY changes are made to the database. Even one minor change can cause the index file(s) to become useless. There's always a better way...

I have a question and it is very related to your case.
I have dbf's (dbase III files) now accessed by a Clipper Summer 87 application that I want to keep it working.
In the other hand I'm trying to access the same files using visual basic 6, but I don't know how to open the dbf´s using the index files (*.ntx) that clipper application use in order to mantain it updated, and prevent the problem that you experimented.

can you help me?

dBase has stand-alone .NDX index files and .MDX master or multiple indexes. I've seen files with extensions .NTX used by VOS systems which are used in some computerized phone systems. Did you mean .NDX?

Regarding my previous post, Clipper does use .NTX as the file name extension for its indexes. Perhaps the application I mentioned was built on a Clipper foundation?
