When I attempt to load dBase 5.5a to my laptop running Windows XP I get the following message box.
C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.NT.
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Anybody have any ideas? I run dbase 5.5a on other computers with XP

GENERALLY this is a result of a virus. You are missing the AUTOEXEC.NT in the windows \ system32 directory.

Search the web .. this is a symptom of other things

the autoexec.nt is usually found in the windows\ repair directory copy it to windows\system32 directory

In reading through the various postings I have come away under the impression that there may be a way to make Visualdb 5.5 accept long file names. Can anybody tell me how?
