After reading multiple posts everything I read leads me to believe that I have to use a DB25 cord to program a R7. Is that correct? What I have is a DB9 to RJ45 (cisco cable) Can I use that and bypass the db25 cord? Do I need the 355AF or can I just use the cord also? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

never tried the cisco cord but I would guess it won't work.
easiest way to find out is hook it up and try it, if you start connecting via software and chose COM1 or COM2 and it comes up with the password prompt then you are golden if not then you need the 355AF.
I don't even know the pinout for it but some people have done it and made thier own adapter

I am in the process of making one right now, If it works I will share it for the next guy that is too cheap to buy the adapter like myself. I dont usually do Partner so you raised another question for me, what is the default password?

no password is in the system by default
you set it under #730 yourself (via phone 10 or 11)
I have not tried to just hit enter if the password is blank but it doesn't work when you try remotely
