I got a console cable which is DB25 male to RJ45. It doesn't seem to work on a parallel port(duh). My question is, are there any serial ports with DB25 connectors, or, what do I need to do to make this thing work? Thank you!

Isn't a DB25 connector for the aux port on a Router?
So it's an ethernet connection then.

darkhut,
Most console cables I have worked with have a built in DB9 connector at one end and an RJ45 at the other or they have RJ45 at both ends and have a DB9 to RJ45 adapter.

I have a very, very, very old Cisco router (i think a Cisco 1000) that has a DB25 serial connector.

Your best bet is to just get a new one on eBay - I saw a bunch for about $5-6 with shipping - I searched for "console" under network - cables.

Hope this helps!

ok, I guess it's one of those weird things, but thank you for the help:)

The cable you have (flat black I suspect) is used to connect an external modem (DB25) to the router aux port RJ45 (or console port for that matter) for out-of-bandwidth management. You can use gender benders to convert the 25-pin to a 9-pin but it is usually cheaper and less hassle to just make or buy a console cable.

Yes indeed it's a black flat cable, sorry I forgot to mention that.:)

Could you please tell me more about the modems that you connect to the aux port of the cisco routers?

hehe, I suspected google was the answer, should have tried myself before asking
