I have 2 WinXP systems. The only difference between the two is that one has SP2 installed and one does not. Here is the other difference... one will let me install DB2 v8.1 on it... the other will not... Which one won't allow the install you might ask... the one with SP2 installed on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrr

I would really appreciate it if anyone has an opinions on this. I really need to get a workaround so that I can install on the XP box that has SP2 on it. I heard a rumour that there is a fixpak 10 that I can use to help me get this installation going...

I am not above uninstalling SP2 but I am sure that there must be some other way...

Thanks in advance

It says "DB2 cannot install on this version of the operating system" This then stuck me... one is XP Pro and the other is XP home...

I hope that I can get around this...

OK, so you have two machines, one with XP Home, one with XP Pro. DB2 won't install on the one with SP2, so which one is that, home or Pro?

I should pay more attention... sorry... SP2 is on the Home version. The one that won't let me install v8.2

I've just had a google on 'DB2 XP SP2' and got quite a lot of stuff. It appears that Microsoft warned that SP2 might not be compatible with apps, and DB2 seems that it might well be one of them. The onus lies on IBM to sort it out, and I would drop into their support site to see if they have a patch to get round this problem.

Yep... as of right now it looks like uninstalling SP2 might be the only option...

I uninstalled SP2 on my XP Home computer because some things all of a sudden stopped working after I installed it. I have DB2 V7 on that computer but I don't think I tried it while SP2 was on the computer. I had Dell assist me with the uninstall which was fortunate since they had to change some registry settings.

Sorry rhnewfie, but I can't remember exactly what settings they redid. I sure wouldn't have known to change them though.

It appears that the problem is that I am trying to install this software on XP home. Anyone have any suggestions to get around this?

Yep, wasn't a problem. I did that. Got an eval version of Personal Ed. and that installed just fine.
