I have two servers with DB2 Worksgroup installed on it. But, at one server I put DB2 v72 Fixpack 8 and the other I use DB2 v81. The problem is I can't connect my DB2 v72 server with my DB2 v81 through Control Center. It returns a failed communication and suggest to upgrade DB2 v72 with same version (DB2 v81). Can anyone help me if there is another way to connect these servers beside upgrading my DB2 v72. Any suggest would be appreciated.

Hello Marwoto,

My experience that IBM knows little about downward compatibility. You will probably experience that using control center from 8.1 on 7.2 database is problematic too... (same experience with control center from 7.1 to a 5.2 database) T. Blom

You cannot use Control Centre from a V8 Client to a V7 Server ..

This is very clearly documented in What's New book under 'Downlevel server support' topic. Don't miss to read this before migrating your software.

Generally DB2 clients can access 1 version below and 2 versions up. I remember reading this in Quick Beginnings, but left for you to verify.

Thank you all. I read in What's New docs (what I missed somewhere) about this problem and other considerations to make different DB2 platforms in one database system. Only a few tools of DB2 v81 that support for previous level. I think I'll upgrade my DB2 v72 servers to get best environment with DB2 v81.
