Hi everyone,

I see that crystal reports 8 can link to NT event log as a datasource, we have a situation here where on the DB2 server, there is an event log called "journal" which has job events in it, which we are trying to get to through a report, so the events that fail can be distributed to people. I don't know everything about the DB2 journal because the DBA looks after it, I am trying to help him by researching if this can be used as a datasource for crystal. If anyone knows anything about this, I would appreciate any input!

Thank you - cord

That's such an odd situation that I dont think I've seen anything like it anywhere on here or Seagate's site.

I'd try to twist your data into more of a normal situation and then try the report.

I'd imagine there is probably a way in DB2 to either:
1. Create a Stored procedure to pull data from that log and return it as it would a regular table
2. Insert logs going into the event log also into a regular table

If you could do either one of these two, then you could just make a regular old report using DB2 as its data source.

If the journal is just a text file, you might use an ODBC text driver to read it.

The key is to learn what format it is in.
