is there an easy way (ie. file extensions) to exclude files from my filesystem backup that are already included in my db2 backup?

essentially, i'm backing up the database using "db2 backup" and backing up all the files in my filesystem backup, as well.

please let me know if more information is required.

If you have SMS tablespaces - yes you can exclude the files with LBF, DAT, IDX etc.

If you have DMS tablespaces - there are no standard file naming convention.

I would suggest that you make a list of all directories that have DB2 containers and exclude them from backups.

Remember: "backup is for dummy's, restore is for pro's"
So, what is your recovery stratigy? Do you have a dedicated database server? How fast can you re-build that server and restore the database? How well did you secure your backup-images and transaction log files?
Did you test? How long did it take to restore the database on a stand-by server? How often do you test that procedure?
