I work for a fairly new company and we invested in Arcserve2000 about 6 months ago. It's running on Win2000 TS. Errors during backup started about a week ago - the first was "unable to log into database - ec=1034." I had to reboot the server because I just couldn't get the db service to re-start. After that, I checked and saw there were 104 .cat files in the temp directory, so I ran mergecat successfully. I tried following the "How to Maintain Arcserve2000 database" ran the dbcheck utility (there were errors), dbfix, and keybuild utility. The message at the end of the keybuild was "unable to retrieve error report". I re-ran the dbcheck and now the error is:

"key file astpsdat.002; problems at node xxxx:
* node is not referenced by either the b-tree or delete chain."

Last night's backup ran just fine, however I'm at a loss as to what this error is and how to fix it. Any help is very much welcomed and appreciated.

If the cat files has not moved from the temp folder after the backup then move the files to a different location.

Then delete all the R files in the database folder.
Then follow the Doc 1521 to maintain the database...
