Hello

We have an 3300 LX inplace on a customer site running v8.

We are replacing this with an MXEIII.

Regarding the MXEIII controller the release notes states (and I quote) "The 3300 MXe III Controller will only work with MCD software 4.2 and above"

How do I convert the database in the above scenario??

The release ntoes also state "!During the upgrade process using a database from a previous MCD release, a data
convert/restore will be done. The MXe III will be able to use the restored database."
Does this mean you can restore older databases onto the MXEIII with software 4.2?

If anyone has completed works similar to the above any advise would be appreciated.

This is a tricky one!
In esscence you will need to upgrade at least twice.
You will first need to upgrade to rel 4.0 and then convert the database to GDM SDS before restoring on rel 4.2
Your LX will only upgrade to rel 9.0
So you will need to restore your rel 8.0 database on to a rel 4.0 machine, convert this to GDM SDS then save this and then restore it to your new MXeIII with rel 4.2.

So do you have access to a MXeII with rel 4.0 so that you can perform the above?

If you get stuck I have a such a system that this can be performed on.

This is what I thought, not ideal really is it!!!
Fortunately we do have an MXe that we can use to convert - just a pain taking 2 x 3300 controllers to site for the 1 upgrade.

I suspect there will be alot of messing around on AMC - transferring of SYSIDs etc to ensure the various controllers are licenced correctly to allow us to restore the databases and complete the upgrade of the DB.

Thanks for your response.

You say messing!
If the controller you have as a spare has licences attached then you can simply restore the database, convert and save.

Yes you will need to clear the hardware ID from the AMC for the LX controller before licencing the new MXeIII controller

If the spare controller does not have licences then simply swap the iButton over to it from the new MXeIII for the restore then database convert it to GDM SDS, and then put it back in the MXeIII once the data save has been taken, and then restore it on the MXeIII
