I am applying updates to the timezone files on some solaris systems (sparc). I am doing this manually (not via patch because we dont have sun support at present).

Once I do the zic, zdump confirms that the daylight saving time changes for 2007 and beyond are now correct.

Is it necessary to reboot?

(I now that when chaning the timezone variable for the system that rebooting is necessary, but in this case I am just changing the definition of the timezone).
(I'd love to avoid a reboot if possible).

thanks.

the patches are open to the public (no contract needed), at least that is what Sun told me. for the patches, you need to reboot.

I couldn't find the patch available, but I did find a way to actually fix the timezone configuration..I just need to know if a reboot is needed once I do the ZIC (to compile the new zone info).

Since this method works, I'll do it instead of the patch.

Presumably any running processes will not notice the zone info change, so if you want *everything* to pick it up then a reboot may be necessary.

Annihilannic.
