p.s.

oldnewbie

i think this is one question which u know the answer, pls help 'coz i really am new to this and i have no other source of help other than you guys!

thanks

Dave is sleeping! He's had a looooooooooooooooong night!

Do you mean the input text boxes?

What do you want to do?

;-)

old,

nice to hear from you! i hear that your from montreal? nice place!
it's like this:

i have a lot input text boxes in frames 1-20 of my movie.
when they click a button it checks that at least the five most important have been filled in! if it isn't then i it goes to frame 75 where an error message is. then they click BACK which will take them to frame 1 where the text boxes are! if only one of the five has been left empty, how can i make the other four retain the typed input from the user. byt the way i made them (the 5 text boxes) blank on frame one so that i can check if they are empty or not.

if this is getting u confused i could send u the file thru ur email if u dont mind.

hope u answer right back.

thanks

p.s.
old exactly how looooooooooong has dav's night been?

also what's flashforge? and how can it be useful?

if u r still confused, i know u have been to dav's pinkzepelin.com, just like the form for the contact button. I filled it up then clicked gallery then clicked contact and the things that i typed r still there!

Are you using variables assigned to these input boxes?
If so, and you should, where are you setting these up, on frame 1? And what values are you giving them initially?

old,

never mind that problem. i di what u told me and had working out!

could u tell me (in a way i can easily understand) how do i pass variables to and swf file?

flash help isn't much help at all! i kinda don't understand it from that perspective.

could u give me the basics for it? pls..

thanks and will be waiting for your reply!

Are you on Flash 4 or 5?

Kind of hard for me to explain out of context. I've allways found it easier for learning, to look at a fla that somewhat addressed the problem I was facing, and play around with it. I have a small one somewhere, I'll try to post it so you can have a look at it.
Maybe that will help you somehow!

old,

nice idea!

i'll be waiting for that and be monitoring this thread. Thanks in advance.

p.s.
how come they call this a thread?

You didn't say if you had 4 or 5!
Scripting is a little different in both!

You can have a look at this one:

This reads a variable from two text files(one a good password - the other a wrong one) and commands two mc accordingly.
You can download all of the files from the movie itself!

Still lookin' for the other one!

old,

does it have to be a txt file?

i am using ASP files.

thanks for the help. will still be waiting for the more, is its ok with u.

I thought dav is already up by now. u said he's the expert in ASP.

thanks old, you have been really helpful..

hope to hear from u soon!

hey Big

Thanks for the feedback on pinkzeppelin.com. It was a long night. In fact I was on the forum for the most part of 32 hours!!

The reason the text doesn't go anywhere is because it remains resident in the movie until something deletes it. That 'something' which deletes it can only be one of two things, YOU or the PHP. So because you haven't sent it, the PHP hasn't had the chance to enforce it's cleaning action on the text field variables. Hence you can fill out the form, check out the rest of pinkzeppelin and them come back and change anything before sending.

does that answer your question?

dave

ps: I'm no expert in ASP dave@davdesign.co.uk
