Dates Formatted as Text When Exported to Excel 1

I have a report that contains two columns of dates (MM/dd/yyyy format). When the report is exported to Excel, the dates are formatted as text instead of dates, so they do not sort as expected. In Excel, the dates do not change to a date format until I click on or edit the cell. Is there a way to set the date format in the report and have it export to Excel in the correct date format?

Are the dates coming INTO the RS report as dates? Are they being manipulated at all in the RS report or have any functions applied to them? Generally, Excel is fine with dates exported from RS...

Thanks. Someone told me that the stored procedure was returning dates, but I just checked for myself and it is converting the dates to char(10) before it returns the results to the report.
