Date Stamp on Form

I am trying to create a field that does the following. I cant seem to do it right. Any help?

When a new form (document) is created I would like to date stamp it. This date stamp is the date of when it was created and should never change.

I created a date field and tried to use the computed methood but cant seem to get it right? Any body got some clues with possible examples?
