Date in Dictionary

I created a dictionary file from a table which is having a date field. Now when I create a report based on this dictionary file, the date field is showing as string. I was planning to use a date range parameter for this report based on dictionary but it is not allowing me to do so ( Since my date range parameter is type 'Date' and the field is 'string')

Any help !!!
