Hi All,

We are currently working for a company that has split into two. We have been asked to seperate the data from the warehouse between these 2 companies. Wanted to know the approaches for separating Master Data (Master data is both shared and exclusive to the respective company), aggregated data. Pointers to any material which talks about splitting datawarehouse data in a company spin-off situation is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

I don't have any experience in this but a couple of things come to mind.

The split can mean two things,
1. Horizontal split, i.e. split the data while keeping the formats and standards for Metadata and Master Data.

2. Vertical split, i.e. functionality split where one of the spin off gets a set of subject area and other mutually exclusive set.

Chances are it will it will be hybrid approach, meaning some of the some of the subject areas will be split horizontally while others will be exclusively assigned to one of the two organizations.

Are you or your group responsible for maintaining MDM integrity for both?

Anand
