I have Office 2003. When I transfer a spreadsheet to Access from Excel, the wizard doesn't allow me to change the datatypes for the fields. So, the zip code field (which I formatted as text in Excel) comes in as a number field with a double format. This means that all of the zip codes that were Zip+4 caused errors and did not import. What can I do to remedy this? Why is the datatype option greyed out?

Thank you,

Dawn

Just below the header row insert a fake row with well known text values.
The wizard will thus create text fields instead of numeric.
After the import, simply delete the fake from the table.

Hope This Helps, PH.

Wonderful idea, I will do that next time. Here is what I did to work around it this time. I created a new zip field by concatenating the zip code with the word "zip" and then after the import I just did a find and replace to remove the word zip.

However, I am still curious to know why the option to change datatype is greyed out in the import wizard. Any ideas?

Thanks

Dawn
