I'm testing clarion 8 with a new app.
Worked fine until i open the app and all the table conections are empty.
.bpp file gives the same.
message opening sln/app:
Unknown variables were detected in some WINDOWs or REPORTs.Edit WIndow or Report as a text to see/correct names off variables which cannot be found by there GUIDs.
Declarations can be partially lost if not corrected.

I lost them all. Why is it happen? so I can prefend to happen again. And I want a better solution instead of handcode everything back.(which gives still the errors after handcoded)

Regards Leo

Hi Leo,

Which version of Clarion 8?

The Clarion APP used to use IDENT Nos to identify columns in dictionary and global/module/local data until C6.3. From C7, it used GUIDs instead of IDENT Nos. Normally, if the GUIDs are expected to change, you should always export the APP to TXA and then re-import from the TXA. Why? Because the TXA does not store IDENTs or GUIDs and it will try to find the matching column while importing.

If you have a good copy of the APP/DCT that works, export that APP to a TXA and the import that into an empty APP which uses the latest DCT.

Hoi ShankarJ,

Thanks for your reply.
I didn't have a txa before the problem.
So I opened the app from backup when it working.
When I open the app it gives me the same error message.
I export it to TXA.
Open new app with the same dct.
import TXA.
The same error again.
Apps with a other dct are still working(example apps also)

Regards Leo

Hi Leo,

If the APP gives an error on opening, exporting that to a TXA will not help. You need to export to a TXA from an APP which does not give errors. Try opening the APP from the Backup with the DCT from the same backup as well. If there are no errors, export to TXA. If not, you have no option but to re-do everything.

Regards

Hi ShankarJ,

The dct i used was from the backup.
Do you have any idea why this can happen?
This was a tryout but what happens when it was the real work after 6 months.....
I've never had this before with clarion 4,5,6.

Regards Leo.

Hi Leo,

Why?

1. Could be a bug in C8. After all, it's still BETA.
2. For example, if you had deleted any table in the DCT and copied the same table from another DCT, the GUIDs of the table/columns/keys would be COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and cause this problem.

Whenever you are making changes to the DCT, always export the APP first to TXA.

Why don't you post a PTSS on the Softvelocity site - ? You can mark the post as PRIVATE and upload your APP/DCT for them to check. The login is your e-mail to which SV sends your updates and the password is the numeric part of your serial number. If you have any problems, you need to write to sales@softvelocity.com

Regards

Hi ShankarJ,

Export to TXA after changing the DCT is a habit from now on.
I've post to softvelocity.
When they have a answer why it can happen I let you know.

Thanks Leo.
