DataStage XE/390 Performance Issue

Hi! I am working on XE/390, I have to handle delta changes but we have very big field lenghts and large files. Can anybody suggest how to handle that kind of situation in performance perpective. We tried regular lookup it is taking almost 3days to run a job.
