Still looking for a few more good DS TX users for the 8.0 Beta. Contact your local support organization or salesperson, there are only a few more days to sign up. You need to be on 6.7.1 or later. You will have direct input into support & product management, so you can help guide the product to better benefit your company.

But wait.. there is more! :) You can use the new profiling, debugging and tuning features to get information you can use in your current maps to improve performance etc.

Beta has now been released for all platforms except for MVS/Z/OS and CICS.

You don't know what you are missing :)

How much of an ordeal will it be to upgrade from 6.7.1 and what can we expect to see as far as performance improvements? We are running on a UNIX platform interfacing to Oracle 9i databases. Does this beta release include validations of the ISA02 and ISA04?

This depends on if your maps are well written and the systems are well designed, and if you use the new map profiler and debugger before going live.
I am not sure where you want those validations to be. What ANSI version? If the segments are in the tree, they are validated. If you require further qualifications than the standard, feel free to add your own rules.

WE are using ANSI Version 4030. As we built our maps and started testing we discovered much to our dismay that even though Partner Manager accepts the ISA01-ISA04 parameteres it wasn't validating them. We would ideally like the ISA02 and ISA04 to be validated against the Partner Manager parameters entered and if they do not match we would receive a 997-Reject from CM. We are working with government data and need to be sure the filer is who they say they are. We currently have an additional functional map they is run after the initial stampandsort/passx12 etc and we would like to dump that and have the functionality done where we believe it belongs. I've discussed this with Dieter Karaluz and he indicated that he believed this capability would be available sometime Spring/Summer of this year.

I would be leary of stating the maps are well written but I would hope that since they were done by Asential staff and contractors that they not bad, just huge. I'd would be willing to use the map profiler and debugger on the maps to see what we could acomplish provided the time is there to do so.

So again, how much of a project is it to just upgrade to 8.0 or even to 7.5?

Thanks,
Mel162

If Dieter says he will write it, he will. From 6.7.x to 7.5.1 / 8.0, there are no serious gottchas. There is a patch needed for 7.5.1, EC60894 to fix a DB memory leak in the Event Server.
Some contractors do great jobs, others, well... and no, I can't name names. The biggest change mapping wise would be XML in 8.0, major change, trees would need to be re-imported and remapped to take advantage of new XML code. You could use the old version too, but would not get the much simpler trees.
There are major changes in Commerce Manager, but most of that would be handled by the upgrade tools.
You might still have time to sign up for the 8.0 beta. Best way to find out what it will and won't do for your company, and you can have greater influence in the product direction. Contact Support and ask that your info be sent to the Beta Manager, or contact your sales rep.

On the message from BocaBurger concerning Datastage Tx 7.5.1 that reads 'There is a patch needed for 7.5.1, EC60894 to fix a DB memory leak in the Event Server.'

Does anyone know who issued the patch and from whom to obtain it?

IBM engineering created the patch. You have to contact IBM support to get it.
