Hi,

one of my current reports uses an Access database on my PC for its datasource.
When I access the report via the browser, it requests a username and password (of which there isn't one) so I cannot view the report.
How can I make this accessible?

Hi,
Is it asking for a database password or a CE user/password ( like Guest)?

Are the browser and the database running on the same PC?

Have you granted permission to the Browser's IUSR_ account to read the database location?

Versions of CE, CR, and your OS will be very helpful..

hi Turkbear,

I am running CE 10 and CR 10 on Windows 2000 with IIS.

the Access database is on a network drive that my PC can view.
there isn't a user/password set to access the database normally.
I'm viewing it as Administrator in CE 10.
I haven't granted permissions, as I assumed Admin had all permissions...
yet it still asks for login details.

Just a thought but does the account that CE is running under have domain access to the network path where the Access database is stored ? Also are you accessing the Access database through a System DSN on ODBC ?

Shorty,
I am assuming that the Admin account I am using to log into CE has domain access, because its on my pc and my pc has access.

The access database is accessed from Crystal by selecting MS Access int he datasrouce list, where I just entered the path that the .mdb file resides.

The account the CE service is running on will have to more than just local admin right (which is normally what an admin account on your own PC would have). Try signing onto your network using the admin account that CE is using. Then try and connect to the datasource and/or the network drive that it is stored on. If you are unable to then the admin account has insufficient rights.

Even if you are signed on to the machine CE will use another "admin" account normally.

HI,
The CE services run, by default, under a Local System account (not Administrator) - it is not affected by how you ( the user/administrator) log onto CE..It is the Service that needs permission to access the Access database so configure the pageserver and jobserver services to run under a domain account.

hi folks, i'm sorry to be a pain, but ths is all very new.

When I uploaded some reports, it runs them without any problem (in particular an Oracle database and a Sybase database)and I didn;t have to do anything to the pageserver.

I don't know how to configure the pagesever to have access to other things.
I recently published a report that uses a Lotus Notes database, but that is asking for a username/password aswell.

Crystal Reports is accessing the Notes database using Lotus Notes SQL ODBC connection.

I have not reported against Lotus Notes but assume it is similar to other ODBC connections. Normally there is a Userid/Password section in the ODBC administrator for that connection - check that it is completed and see if that helps.

Right, I have discovered how to configure the servers to log on using different id/passwords.

I entered my NT user details in the box instead of the local host, for the page server and the job server.
when I ran the report again, it still came up with a prompt for username and password.
I entered my Notes user/password, but still no joy.
then I just entered the password and no username and it worked!! does anyone know why?

I don't want the user's to have to enter this information, so is there anyway I can hard-code the password?

thanks for all your help,
Matt

Hi,

I've had a similar problem. I was advised by someone more techincal than me that my 'Jet engine' was the wrong version.

I got round this by first getting excel to import the access database, and then getting CR to look at the excel spreadsheet.

sound very silly but worked for me.

P.S I did not store the excel spreadsheet with a password

Regards

Mohammed

Hi Mohammed,

did you have to refresh the Excal data manually before each Enterprise run?

Hi

Firsly the Lotus Notes SQL - When settimng up the ODBC connection: Select your name, descrtiption, server and database...then click on options and select the user name (in my case its a Notes ID file located on C:/Lotus/Notes/Data, then also enter the appropriate password

Secondly, I've had similar problems accessing Excel from CE10 (not CR10) which might be similar to the Access ODBC accessing issue. The solution was to select the UNC path in the ODBC connection, as opposed to the mapped path.

Cheers,
Etienne
