DatagridView Form Load

I can't seem to figure this out. on one of my forms under the form load event, my datagrid populates just fine. from that form I'm opening up another form and trying to populate another datagridview but it doesn't populate. it will populate if I use a button or call the code from the forms shown event. What causes this to happen.
