Datagrid vs. Datalist for expandable list

I am about to start a project that will have several thousand records displayed. When a + sign is clicked, the list will expand to show additional info about the row that was clicked.

My question is: What is the best method to accomplish this, a datagrid or a datalist? I figured somebody has probably done this before, and could possibly give me a push in the right direction.

I think a datalist would be in order here.

Simply define the editItemTemplate as the expanded list, and you should be good to go.

One thing, though... more than one item won't be able to be expanded at one time w/o some extra work.
