The datafile for a database is set to extend automatically. In enterprise manager it currently shows as having no space free but has not autoextended.

There is free space in the transaction log.

Is it the case that the datafile will not autoextend until the transaction log is full?

it will expand when it has a need. it might be that when the datbase was created, it was done so that its still has more free space than is needed. You cannot shrink the size below the orig size allocation.

Unless there are errors or performance problems, you needed worry about it.

is there space left on the drive? Enough to account for the amount you are telling it to expand by when it expands?

It has been happily expanding every few weeks, and looks like it did yesterday morning. There is enough space on drive, no indication of error anywhere. If I rememeber, Ent Mgr says size is 5333Mb, it has used 5333Mb, 0Mb free and the file size on disk is approx 6000 Mb.

We also seem to be getting scripting errors on the Ent Mgr page when displaying (via Terminal Server) from the node on which the DB sits, so access is now made via Ent Mgr from another Terminal Server.
