I have installed Backup Exec 8.6 Datacenter on a 2000 Server and Remote Agents on other 2000 Servers. I also bought the SQL and Exchange agents.

The problem is, where the main server works, the other 2000 servers are greyed out. Do i need a license for each server? I did check "USER", and the serial number of the product is programmed in. Is there another serial number for "Agents" on 2000 server to work?

If i wanted to use exchange agent on a different server would i need another license? Do i need to make shares or something? this is frustrating! Thanks for your help!

someone told me i need a "remote agent" license for each Server I am trying to back up. Any idea of the price per server for this?

I found out that this software is only for one server, and, even if you buy the Exchange agent, you can only backup exchange on the same server as you install the software. You need a "Remote agent" even if you paid for the "exchange agent". In addition, you need to buy a "remote agent" for every server you want to back up on your network. Meaning if you buy this software, and you want to do 10 servers, 9 of them are considered remote. So 9 X 150$. The salesperson forgot to mention these "agents" and now i look really dumb in front of my manangement.

actually, all it was was i needed the system managment tools. Now I am going to venture how to get the individual mailboxes to back up. Outlook 98? I am a little worried about using that, esp from a security standpoint.

Yes, you need to install an outlook client. The way I did it, I created an Exchange Mailbox called Mailbox Recover, installed outlook98 and set the mailbox recover as the profile. There are also articles on the Veritas website regarding this so if you have any problems you should check out their site.
