I just installed esx 4.1, and am having a hard time finding how to add a datacenter or a cluster. The only thing that shows in vsphere client is the host. No option to even add another. Any ideas?

Have you connected to the host or to a vCenter server? Data Centers and clusters require having and connecting to the vCenter server and managing the servers via vCenter.
