What database application will run on Novell Netware 5 server?

Novell is strictly a file server. All databases may reside there, but the client PC must run the process. The server can not.

Let em amend that: you can run ftp, web, and some other server processes. But it is not an application server in the common sense.

So would I be able to run a Micorosoft Access client / server database on a Novell netware 5 server.

No.
You could run an Access database front end that could connect to a Pervasive database on the Netware Server.

We have several Access databases on our Netware servers. If your Access front end is querying an SQL engine, no you cannot run SQL on Netware 5 (you can run MySQL on Netware 6.5). If, however, you are running a pure Access database, you can certainly place the .mde and .mdb files on a Netware server and have the clients execute them from there.

You can run SQL on a NetWare server but you have to purchase it seperately, NetWare does not come with it as standard.

Like Lawnboy said, you can store an Access database on a NetWare server and have your Clients access the MDB file and from experience this works well.

If you look at your original Netware 5.0 CD's you should find a disk marked Oracle 8 5 user. This is a native (NLM) version that runs directly on a Netware 5.0 system. I even loaded this on a NW 6.0 server and it ran fine. I don't know if any later versions of Oracle are still NW compatable but maybe someone else knows.
I have since decided to go with NW 6.5 and the AMP as a solution.
