First of all you have to add " Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.1 " Library from your VB references.
They Try with the following simple code :-
Dim con As New ADODB.Connection
Dim rs As New ADODB.Recordset
If rs.State = adStateOpen Then rs.Close
rs.Open "< SQL Query > ", con, adOpenDynamic
'con is the connection String
Do While Not rs.EOF
< Code here for getting data from Record Set >

rs.close
con.close
They Try with the following simple code :-
