Does anyone know how I can set a password for bringing up the design view. Currently a user can push "F11" on the keyboard to bring it up, but I don't want any users to bring this up. I want to be the only who has the ability to bring this up. Is there a way to set a password for this? Please help, if anyone knows. Thanks.

Accck! I didn't know about that shortcut. (Hopefully, neither do my users). Here are some options you could try.

1. Give the users an "mde" version of the database. This is executable code only with design view disabled.

2. Not sure if this will work with the F11 shortcut, but I found this FAQ extremely useful for disabling the shift trick shortcut. faq181-143

If anyone else has any better ideas for disabling F11, I would love to know as well.

Marquis,
I'm assuming I can make command buttons for both of those codes, at the above URL you sent me to? If that is so, I will definitely try today, to make sure no one gets into this portion of the database. Thanks so much for your response:).

Jerome,

I just tried hitting F11 on a database with the shift trick disabled. Unfortunately, it still let me into design view. So this will not work as a solution to your issue. :-(

I suppose you are left with the ".mde" database solution unless someone else here has a better idea.

Ahhhhhh. Ok, I will try the .mde route. Thanks Marquis.

Jerome,
Someone here finally told me how to disable F11. It's so simple, I didn't even see it. Just go to the Startup page and click on the advanced button and uncheck the "use special access keys" field.

I'm glad I finally found that. Now my users will never get into these databases again. <Evil laugh>

Yes, I figured that out as well. NOW I WILL LOCK ALL THESE USERS OUT:). Thanks a lot.
