Database update

Hello. We have a JSP page that contains fields from a database table. A user can edit the information.
When SAVE button is clicked the information needs to be updated in the database.
Is there an easy way to create an update string that would only contain the changed fields?

Maybe you can use hidden form elements to store the original values and have these values submitted along with the values entered by the value to a servlet, which compares the 2 sets of values and then creates an UPDATE SQL statement based on what's different.
