I have a user that is trying to run the database tuning wizard. He is getting the following error

Unable to load tuning errors from table . Reason: The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'DTA_tuninglog', database 'msdb', schema 'dbo'

He is the owner of the database he is trying to run the tuning wizard on. I found were I can give him select rights to the MSDB databse but everthing I have read is not to give users rights to the system databases.

Does a sysadmin have to run the tuning wizard from the users desk to initialize the wizard?

Any suggestions on how to get this user running would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

It is recommended that a sysadmin be the one running the Tuning Wizzard. Running the DTW can put a good deal additional load on the SQL Server.

There is nothing wrong with giving users access to objects in system databases if they need that access to do thier job.
