Am using Access 2007. Designing a school database where many kids are in many families. Kids have primary custody and secondary custody families. My tables are: tblFamlies (with fields of ID and LastName, etc.--See attachment) and tblFamMem (With fields of fldLN, fldFN, fldcell, fldbday, etc. Not sure what fields I should have here.) I can't figure out how to get a kid in two different families--one family would be primary and one would be secondary. Can't add him twice or the cell and birthday info, etc., would be repeated. Thought about putting fldPrimary and fldSecondary in the tblFamMem. Thanks for your help.

You need to implement a many to many relationship. You need a table for kids and one for families. Then you need a linking table that links kids to families, probably with a flag for primary.

After reading this: the structure should be pretty clear.
