We are planning to roll out a Database server supporting MP2 and other Maintinance programs. and we are planning on hosting these data bases for different co. What would be the best server to get and what kind of eqipment would we need to keep it all secure and be able to access these Databases through the internet?

A few suggestions...
Large capacity case, I use the supermicro cs850, they make equivalent in U units; quality motherboard
A good quaility raid card, u320
15k scsi drives,15k drives makes a difference with databases
SQL for the databases
Fast backup unit
Windows 2003, if you dare, faster than Win 2000
Fast WAN link to the Internet, and on the client side. How fast depends on your customer's needs

Next you need Citrix or an equivalent for reasonable speed for client access

For performance, ensure that you separate the OS, Data and index from each other. 3 different mirrors would be ideal if you can afford the 6 disk. At a bare minimum, 4 disks in two mirrors (one for data/os, one for index)
My suggestion on DB is Oracle (if vendor supports it). There may be more expertise required for support, but it is a much more mature db platform.
