Dear sir or madam,

I am trying to restore my database from last night back up. Currently my back up run every hours and is listed as follow:
NAVApplication16_00.TRN

I need to restore from this specific time, and I do the following steps:
1. Enterprise Manager - right click on the specific database - all task - restore database\
2. from device I select the path where the back ups resides (NAVApplication16_00.TRN )
when I select ok I am getting the following error:

ERROR: Microsoft SQL-DMO(ODBC SQLSTATE:42000) the backup set in fiel xxx\xxxx\xxx\NAVApplication16_00.TRN was crated by BACKUP LOG and cannot be used for this restore operation. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

I really appreciate any assistance.

Jimmy

Jimmy,
It sounds like you are trying to restore a transaction log backup first. You must first restore the last full backup of your database. Then you can roll the database forward by applying the TRN backups.

Look for the last backup file with a .BAK extension. Restore that first. Then, as Paul said, restore every .TRN file between it and the one you've listed above.

If you don't have every .TRN file between the two, you're in trouble, so make sure you have them before you start.
