Database publishing with Publisher

I'm trying to figure out how to import files into Publisher for publishing. These files will contain formatted text and pictures. I've created some test rtf files and these import OK ... except for the pictures! Publisher's import options seem to be extremely limited. Is there any way to import formatted files that contain embedded pictures?
