DATABASE OPENS AS A READ ONLY FILE

I have a database that is being accessed by almost 80 users across the country for the last couple of years without a hitch. A copy of the front end mde file is on the user's computer. The users also have an auto updater so that as and when I have a new version on the server it automatically updates the one on the user's hard drive.

Last week the db was moved to a different server. Since then, the users are able to log in and open the db as a read only file.

While on the new server, the auto update does work seemlessly and the user is able to log in but then the db turns into a read only file.

I checked the user's permissions for the folder where the db is placed. They have modify, read, list contents and write. My permission for the folders is set as full control and I'm able to open the db and generate a record. I tried giving the users full control, which I do not like and don't want to, still they can open the db as a read only file.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to what I'm missing and/or doing wrong or what I should be asking the IT people to do. I do not have any control over the server.

Thanks is advance.
Paul

PPJOSEPH,
I think it is necessary to post the details of the servers so that some one can easily make out the reason. I remember that you were using a CITRIX server as posted in one of the earlier posts

Are you working with USERLEVEL SECURITY that might be the best solution!

PS. I am not able to answer the questions about servers.

I don't know what the glitch was but it fixed by itself even though it took almost a week. Everything is back to normal. Thanks Zameer.

If you transfer files by CD or DVD from one place to another, sometimes files will take on the read-only attribute as files on a CD are obviously read-only. When this happens you simply right click on the filename, select properties and uncheck "read-only".

Hi Guys!!

I have the same problem. My mdb resides in a Windows Server 2003. When it was first placed there, it worked fine, but now it only opens as "read-only".

I have checked the file properties and it does not have the read-only box checked, nor any changes have been made since it was copied to the server.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Have a check that you have full permission to that folder where your db resides in the server.
