Database opening up again when mail merge requested

I have a .mdb database and it runs Word mail merges when I press a button.

I can't figure out why it is opening the database up again when I request a mail merge document to open. This is affecting my mail merge query which runs and uses an open form to populate a parameter it has to get the correct data.

Is there anything I could check to find out why this is happening?

Thank you

From my experience, that is just the way Word works.

If you are calling the merge from access, the merge document is opened and, since it is 'bound' to the Access source (table, query, etc) it has to open Access to connect to the data; it does not recognize that an iteration of Access is currently running.

I have found no way to prevent this if you want to use Access directly as the source.

The work around I came up with is to use the TransferSpreadsheet method to dump the data into an Excel spreadsheet and use the spreadsheet as the data source for the merge.

Can't document it, but my users say this seems to run faster than the old way of directly accessing the Access data.

I use a solution similar to Larry however I send the table/query to a Word merge format file.
