Greetings,

I have an issue that I haven't seen before. I have two Access 2000 Databases (front end databases) on two separate laptops (which have Windows Vista on them). The name of the front-end database is called, "Registration.mdb". I am using a router in order to connect them (via a common Workgroup). The backend database ("Registration_Tables.mdb") is installed on the first laptop.

Both of the front-end databases seem to open and update fine only if I open the front-end database (i.e., "Registration.mdb") on the 2nd laptop first. If I open the front-end database on the first laptop (which also contains the backend database) and then try to open the front-end database on the 2nd laptop, then it just hangs. As soon as I close the front-end database on the first laptop, the front-end database on the 2nd laptop immediately opens.

I was wondering if there is some type of issue with Windows Vista and Access 2000 that could be causing this lock up. The reason I ask this is that if I try a third laptop that has XP on it, I don't have the lock-up issue when attempting to open the front-end database.

At any rate, I hope I've explained the issue clearly. Thanks so much for any suggestions!

I don't know for sure but it sounds like the second laptop is having trouble creating the LDB file for tracking locking. Perhaps it has a technical or permission limitation preventing it? I would start there.
